Editorial Policy
Self Interior is a translation publication. We read Korean interior-design sources — home-tour platforms, DIY communities, and brand catalogs — and translate what matters into English. This page explains how we choose sources, how translation works, and how we attribute the original material.
What we translate
Korea's self-interior (셀프 인테리어) movement produced an enormous body of practical renovation knowledge, almost none of it in English. We draw on:
- Today's House (ohou.se) — Korea's largest interior platform. We translate home tours, product best-seller data, and the design vocabulary the community uses.
- Naver Cafe communities and Naver blogs — long-form DIY renovation logs, budget breakdowns, and before/afters from Korean renters and homeowners.
- Korean brand catalogs — Hanssem, Iloom, Livart, and the other brands that anchor Korean interiors, including pricing in KRW.
How sources are selected
- Documented projects beat inspiration boards. We weight posts with real budgets, timelines, and finished results.
- We favor patterns over one-offs — a technique counts when it shows up across many Korean projects, not in a single viral post.
- We do not translate sponsored posts as if they were independent. When a Korean source marks content as an ad (광고/협찬), we either skip it or label it.
How translation works
We use AI translation tools (including large language models) to read and draft translations from Korean, with editorial review before publication. Specifically:
- AI does the heavy lifting: reading Korean source pages, drafting English translations, and summarizing community consensus across many posts.
- Editorial review covers the claims: prices, product names, measurements, and technique steps are checked against the original source before publishing.
- Units and terms are localized: pyeong (평) is converted to square feet, KRW prices are given with USD equivalents, and Korean style terms are explained rather than transliterated.
Attribution
Every article that draws on a Korean source cites that source, with a link to the original Korean page where one exists. We treat the original creators and platforms as the authority — we are the translation layer, not the origin of the work.
Independence and affiliate disclosure
- No brand pays for coverage or placement. What we feature reflects what Korean communities actually use and recommend.

Corrections
Korean product lineups and prices change. If you find an error — a mistranslation, an outdated price, a discontinued product — email us and we will verify against the original source and correct the article, noting the update date.
